 How does it work?

Considering on average 20-40 shows are filming in Vancouver, BC in any given month, what do you think happens to all of that waste? It’s torn down and ends up in a landfill.

That’s where we come in, with 20 years of building sets - Diversion Zero Waste is leading the film industry in diverting waste to landfills and recycling materials that can be reused or disposing of your waste properly to reduce your carbon footprint.

We are the first in the industry and our mission is to be the leaders in assisting the film industry to reduce their impact on landfills while bettering the environment one bin at a time.

THE PROCESS.

We Demo.

We provide full demolition of your set and will fill your trailer with construction waste including wood, painted wood, foam, and plastic.

We Deconstruct.

We offer many solutions to reducing waste, depending on your budget and time frame. Deconstruction is a longer process than demolition, but the potential for reusing is much higher. Our teams will come in access the set and start breaking it down. With almost 20 years of experience in set construction, we are ready and experienced to deconstruct any set.

We Reuse It.

Working in partnerships with Reuse-it facilities across the Lower Mainland, we will try to re-use as much of the set pieces as possible. Reusing is slightly more expensive but one of the best ways to reduce waste. Your waste will become the next shows treasure.

We Divert.

Once your bin arrives at our “living wage” certified facility, we will weigh your load and start the diversion process. We manually empty and sort through your trailer and create specific piles for diverting. Then, we set aside materials that can be reused such as wood. Any other materials will be ground up and used as a bio-fuel.

The remaining waste will be disposed of to reduce your carbon imprint to eliminate the decomposing of wood, which produces methane, which is 20 times worse than carbon dioxide.

Your Report.

After we have successfully diverted your waste, you will receive a complete break down of what you diverted from landfill. Every trailer or bin is tracked and we will tell you how many tons of material you saved from the landfill. Overtime you can keep track of how much you diverted and how much carbon dioxide you saved from going into the atmosphere.

ZERO DIVERSION WASTE FACTS:

“One ton of wood waste divert from landfill, depending on conditions saves roughly 3.8 tonnes CO2 from the atmosphere.”
